SD card recovery for Windows
Recover deleted photos and videos from your SD card
FileRescue is a Windows app for SD cards from cameras, drones, and action cams. Whether you deleted files by mistake or formatted the card, you can scan it for free to see what can still be recovered. Your first 3 files are free to restore, and there is no subscription.
Problems
Has this happened to you?
In each case, the data may still be on the card and recoverable. Stop taking photos or saving files to that card so nothing new overwrites it.
-
Deleted photos or videos by mistake
You deleted shots from a trip or an event and only noticed after taking the card out. That does not mean they are gone for good.
-
Formatted the SD card
You clicked OK on "Do you want to format?" and the card now looks empty. If nothing has overwritten it, the data may still be there.
-
The card suddenly looks empty
Windows says "File not found" or "You need to format the disk", and files that opened fine yesterday are out of reach.
Features
Built only for SD card recovery
FileRescue works with SD cards and the photos and videos stored on them. Keeping the scope narrow means fewer steps and a lower price.
-
Feature 01
Pick your card and scan
There are none of the detailed settings you find in general-purpose recovery tools. Connected SD cards appear in a list, so you choose the one you want and start the scan.
- Detects SD cards and removable drives automatically
- Works with FAT32 and exFAT SD cards
- No technical knowledge needed
-
Feature 02
Check files before you save them
Every file found is listed with its type, size, and date, and images can be previewed. You then pick only the files you want to keep.
- Preview images
- See type, size, and date in a list
- Recover only the files you select
-
Feature 03
Pay only after your files turn up
Scanning and reviewing results are free, and so is recovering your first 3 files. You can confirm that the photos you need come back before you decide to buy. No expensive license like those of general-purpose recovery tools.
- Free scanning and review
- First 3 files recovered for free
- Purchase through Microsoft Store, inside the app
How it works
Recover files in three steps
From choosing your SD card to saving the recovered files.
-
01
Choose your SD card
Connect the SD card to your PC with a card reader and open the app. Connected SD cards and removable drives are listed, so you select the one you want to recover from.
-
02
Scan and review the results
When the scan finishes, files that may be recoverable are listed. Check the type, size, date, and preview, then select the files you want to save.
-
03
Save to a different drive
Choose a destination folder and recover the files. Always save them to a different drive from the SD card, such as your PC or a USB drive. Your first 3 files are free; from the 4th file on, recovery requires an in-app purchase.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is the SD card detected automatically?
Yes. When you open the app, connected SD cards and removable drives are listed automatically. Cards connected through a card reader work as they are.
What file formats are supported?
Photos in JPEG, HEIC, and AVIF, and videos in MP4 and MOV. For RAW, the app supports some formats from major camera makers, including CR2 and CR3 (Canon), NEF (Nikon), ARW (Sony), and ORF (Olympus / OM System). Not every RAW format is supported.
Is recovery guaranteed?
No. Files that have not been overwritten have a better chance of being recovered. Scanning, reviewing results, and recovering up to 3 files are free, so start by checking whether the files you need can be found.
Which versions of Windows are supported?
Windows 10 and Windows 11 (64-bit).
Can I recover files for free? When do I need to buy?
You can recover up to 3 files in total for free, and scanning and reviewing results are free as well. A purchase is needed from the 4th file on; after an in-app purchase you can recover as many files as you need. You buy through Microsoft Store from inside the app.
